Beverly Hills/US: 79th Golden Globes awards held on Monday morning (Indian standard time) honoured "The Power of the Dog" with Best Film (Drama) and its director, Jane Campion, for Best Director, while Will Smith won Best Actor (Drama) in "King Richard" and Nicole Kidman Best Actress (Drama) in "Being The Richardos", NDTV reported.

Steven Spielberg's remake of "West Side Story" won big with Best Film (Comedy/Musical), and Rachel Zegler won Best Actress (Comey/Musical) for her performance in the film. Ariana DeBose and Kodi Smit-McPhee became Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor for performances in "West Side Story" and "Power of the Dog", respectively. Andrew Garfield won Best Actor (Comedy/Musical) for "tick, tick… BOOM!".

Kenneth Branagh won the Best Screenplay award for "Belfast", and Hans Zimmer was awarded Best Original Score, while the song "No Time to Die" from the James Bond movie "No Time to Die" by Billie Eilish and Finneas O'Connell won Best Original Song. "Encanto" became Best Animated Feature, and "Drive My Car" (Japanese) became Best Foreign Language film.

Regarding Television, "Succession" won three awards. Jeremy Strong and Sarah Snook won Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress, respectively, while the series won Best Drama Series. Meanwhile, Jason Sudeikis won best TV actor (Comedy/Musical) for "Ted Lasso". "Hacks" won Best Series (Musical/Comedy) and Best Actress (Musical/Comedy), Jean Smart winning the latter. O Yeong-su became Best Supporting Actor.

Best Mini TV series was "The Underground Railroad", while Best Actor in a Miniseries was Michael Keaton for "Dopesick" and Best Actress in a Miniseries was Kate Winslet for "Mare of East Town.

"Belfast" and "The Power of The Dog" had led nominations in this year's Golden Globes announced on December 13.

The award ceremony was conducted privately and without the red carpet, audience and TV broadcast. This was not only because of Covid but also because Hollywood stars did a mass boycott as awards face retribution over diversity and ethics issues. It wasn't broadcast and live-streamed.
