IPL 2026: SRH edge MI in record 243 chase at Wankhede, Klaasen shines
text_fieldsMumbai: Heinrich Klaasen's unbeaten 65 steered Sunrisers Hyderabad to a stunning six-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians, chasing down a massive 243—the highest successful pursuit ever at Wankhede Stadium—in the IPL 2026's 41st match on Wednesday.
Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma laid the foundation with a blistering powerplay, racing to 92 without loss in six overs—the joint-most Mumbai had conceded in the phase. Abhishek smashed Trent Boult for boundaries and Jasprit Bumrah for six, while Head plundered 28 off Bumrah's opening overs, including a 99-metre monster. Head's 20-ball fifty and Abhishek's 45 pushed the required rate below 10 before AM Ghazanfar struck twice in two balls, removing both, followed by Hardik Pandya's dismissal of Head for 76.
Klaasen, in red-hot form, steadied the innings with a 22-ball fifty, hammering Ghazanfar for 19 and Ashwani Kumar for four boundaries in an over. A brisk 14 off six from Salil Arora sealed SRH's 249 for four in 18.4 overs.
Earlier, Mumbai Indians posted 243 for five, anchored by Ryan Rickelton's unbeaten 44-ball century—the fastest by an MI batter. Will Jacks' 46 off 22 and Rickelton's explosive 37 off 18 propelled them to 78 without loss in the powerplay. Rickelton dismantled Harsh Dubey for 22 off seven, with Hardik Pandya's 31 off 15 providing late impetus.
SRH's bold batting redefined T20 chases at the iconic venue.
