Rio de Janeiro: The 100-foot statue of Jesus Christ in Brazil was hit by lightning on Friday. The iconic landmark was caught in a flash storm that hit the coast of the country.

The bolt of flash striking the statue's head was caught on camera and shared on Instagram. The user captioned: "DIVINE LIGHTNING !!! IT'S FRIDAY!!! Recordings taken on February 10, 2023, at 6:55 PM (Christ) and 19:03 PM (Antenna) using NIKON D800 with 70-200mm f/2.8E at 70mm f/8 13" ISO 100."

He suggested that the lightning made the statue look truly divine. It looked like the head of the statue was emitting light. The images have gone viral on social media and have gotten over 63,000 likes on Instagram. On Twitter, they have been viewed over 20 million times.

Many social media users also mentioned that Thor is the God of Thunder according to Scandinavian myths and suggested that the two gods are fighting. One wrote: "Mom! Thor and Jesus are at it again!" This is not the first time the statue has been struck by lightning. In 2014, a bolt of lightning damaged the thumb of the iconic figure. It was later restored.

Christ the Redeemer is the largest depiction of Jesus in the world. It is positioned on Corcovado Hill, over 2000 feet above the city. In 2007, it was named one of the seven new wonders of the world.
