Google chrome gives browser a fresh update and enhanced security features
text_fieldsMountain View: Google Chrome, the world's most widely used browser, is celebrating its 15th birthday with a refreshed design and several new features focused on enhancing user security.
The latest update introduces a new Material You-themed redesign, offering customisable colour palettes.
This redesign extends to a revamped Chrome Web Store, featuring AI-powered extensions and improved Safe Browsing that automatically identifies and flags dangerous websites and files. Google is also making web surfing more convenient by allowing users to pin the Google Search side panel to the toolbar.
In this update, Chrome will undergo a desktop redesign, which includes refreshed icons with improved legibility. Users will have access to new customisable colour palettes that sync with open tabs and the toolbar. These colour themes aim to make it easier for users to differentiate between profiles. Additionally, Google will provide a more comprehensive menu for easy access to Chrome extensions.
The Chrome Web Store has also undergone a redesign, with a dedicated section for AI-powered extensions and Editors' spotlight picks.
Google is introducing new search features to simplify web browsing. Users will find it easier to discover related searches, access a page's source, or initiate another search using the Google Search side panel, accessible through the three-dot menu. Users will also have the option to pin the Google Search side panel to the toolbar for quick access.
An essential security upgrade is included in this update, automatically flagging unsafe web pages or files. Unlike the previous system, which checked visited sites every 30-60 minutes, the new security feature scans every webpage in real time. This improvement enhances protection against malware and phishing threats by 25%, said Google.
