Doha: In a historic moment for Kerala football, Malayali youngster Tahsin Mohammad Jamshid has earned a place in Qatar's national squad for the FIFA World Cup, becoming the first player of Malayali origin to be included in a World Cup-bound national team.

Tahsin joins a star-studded squad featuring some of Qatar's biggest football names, including Akram Afif, Hassan Al Haydos and Almoez Ali. His selection marks the culmination of a remarkable rise through Qatar's football system and stands as a proud achievement for the Malayali community in the Gulf. At a time when India's own World Cup qualification remains an elusive dream, a player with Kerala roots has secured a place in a team that has successfully reached football's biggest stage.

The young midfielder first attracted attention in 2021 after breaking into Qatar's Under-16 national team. He later progressed through the Under-17 setup and continued his development with Qatar Stars League giants Al Duhail. In March 2024, he made his senior debut for the club, one of the most successful teams in Qatari football.

Tahsin's rise continued with his senior international debut for Qatar during a World Cup qualifying match against Afghanistan in June 2024. Earlier, he had impressed at the AFC Under-20 Asian Cup in China, featuring in all three of Qatar's matches and establishing himself as one of the country's promising young talents.

Currently training with the national squad in the United States, Tahsin is considered one of the emerging faces of Qatar's next generation. His football journey is also deeply connected to Kerala. He is the son of former Kerala footballer and Qatar expatriate Jamshid from Thalassery in Kannur district and Shaima from Valapattanam.

From Kerala roots to the world's biggest football stage, Tahsin Mohammad's selection represents a landmark achievement that is likely to inspire a new generation of aspiring footballers across the state.
