Thiruvananthapuram: Following a series of road accidents involving speeding private buses, the Transport Department has decided to take measures to rein in vehicles involved in rash driving.

Talking to reporters here on Sunday, Transport Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan said that strict action would be taken against those involved in ‘road-race,’ paying little heed to road rules.

“The police force and the Transport Department will work together to check erratic driving by private buses. As part of the plan, the officials will inspect all the buses plying on all the routes in the State,” the minister said.

Asked about the accident caused by a speeding private bus in which two women were killed in Kochi, the minister said Deputy Transport Commissioner would investigate the incident.

60-year-old Fathima and her sister, Nabeesa (50), were killed after being hit by a speeding private bus at Foreshore Road on Saturday.

Police said the bus hit Fathima and Nabeesa after it hit a bike. Derbin, 23, who was riding the bike, suffered minor injuries.
