UAE declares amnesty for Visa violators
text_fieldsDubai: The UAE has declared a three month general amnesty to foreign violators of the country's residency laws starting from August 1.
Brigadier Saeed Rakan Al Rashedi, Acting Director General of Foreigners Affairs and Ports Department, told the amnesty will begin on August 1 and violators will have the option to either their legal status through paying nominal fees or leave the country voluntarily without prosecution.
He added the details of the amnesty dubbed "Protect Yourself via Rectifying Your Status" will be announced in a press conference soon.
A toll free telephone number will be set up later to answer inquiries from public about the amnesty and how to benefit from its provisions.
The decision will benefit thousands of Indians, including Keralites, who are stranded in UAE since 2013 when the last time amnesty was declared.
UAE cabinet had on Wednesday decided to grant one-year residence visa to people of war-torn countries including Syria, Libya and Yemen.
