New Delhi: A German influencer mocked ‘Indian English’ saying how the use of the word ‘expired’ in India to mean someone’s death left her in stitches.

In her Instagram reels, the influencer explains that ‘A prescription expires, not a person’ according to The Indian Express.

The viral video with a text asking ‘India?! What is going on?’ garnered eight million views and nearly two lakh likes.

It is captioned as ‘Let me know in the comments if you also use ‘expired’? No judgement. Do you use the word ‘expired’ for someone who passed away?’

However, many Indian users criticised the influencer for mocking the use of English in India.

One user responded to the video saying: ‘You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language where a house can burn up as it burns down, where you fill in a form by filling it out, and where a bell is only heard once it goes! So before judging any country, judge the language first!! Thank you’.

Another user on social media asked her to stop laughing about it, adding ‘your followers might get expired.’

A third user asked her to go back to school, adding ‘This just shows your poor vocabulary. I’m glad an Indian finally taught you a new word from the dictionary.’
