Bengaluru police under scrutiny as man allegedly stripped before pushed to death
text_fieldsBengaluru: Bengaluru's Bommanahalli police station is under scrutiny following the death of a man, Mohammed Taheer Hussain, who fell from the roof of his home while being apprehended by police officials. The incident occurred on Wednesday, May 24, prompting allegations from Taheer's family that he was stripped naked and pushed off the roof by a police officer during the altercation.
According to a report published in The News Minute, an FIR has been filed against eight individuals, including Sunil, a police official from the Bommanahalli police station. The case has now been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation.
The events leading up to the tragedy began when police officials from the Bommanahalli police station attempted to take 29-year-old Taheer, a wealthy builder, into custody. The police station had received a complaint accusing Taheer of threatening a woman with a machete the previous day. According to witnesses and family members, Taheer was pursued by police officials and the complainants, ultimately finding himself isolated on the fourth-floor terrace of his home at around 3 pm.
Details regarding the exact circumstances on the rooftop remain disputed. However, shortly thereafter, Taheer tragically fell from the terrace onto the road outside his residence, succumbing to the injuries sustained upon impact.
The complainants, Sadiq Pasha, an auto driver, and Adil Pasha, an independent candidate in the recent elections in Bommanahalli, had accused Taheer of attacking a female relative of Sadiq with a machete on Tuesday, the day before Taheer's tragic death. Taheer's family has alleged that Sadiq and Adil colluded with the police and assaulted Taheer, knowing they had the support of law enforcement.
While the police in Bommanahalli have portrayed Taheer as a troublemaker, they have yet to address the circumstances that led to his death. A senior police officer confirmed that the investigation has been transferred to the CID, assuring that appropriate action will be taken.
