Netflix may reduce Liam Payne’s screen time in upcoming reality show: report
text_fieldsNetflix is reportedly planning to minimise Liam Payne's presence in its upcoming reality series, Building The Band, due to concerns over potential viewer reactions.
The One Direction star had been filming as a guest judge for the show alongside Nicole Scherzinger and Kelly Rowland, with AJ McLean serving as the host.
According to a Metro report, the streaming giant is reassessing its approach to the show following Payne’s passing. While the series was initially scheduled for release later this year, production has been temporarily put on hold.
An insider source revealed that Netflix executives are taking a careful approach in handling Payne’s involvement.
"The feeling among execs at Netflix is that they want to err on the side of caution, and if that means having Liam in the least amount of scenes possible then that's the step they're willing to take," the source stated.
The streaming platform is attempting to balance Payne’s legacy by featuring him doing what he loved, while also avoiding excessive screen time that might be overwhelming for his loved ones.
Building The Band was among the last projects Payne worked on before his passing. Reports suggest that he enjoyed his time on the show and had expressed interest in continuing to work with the bands even after filming had wrapped. Additionally, Payne had been working on a track titled Do No Wrong with North Carolina singer Sam Pounds.
Liam Payne passed away in October last year after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor's Office later revealed that toxicology reports detected alcohol, cocaine, and prescription antidepressants in his system at the time of the incident.
Born in Wolverhampton, England, Payne first gained fame through The X Factor in 2008 and later became a member of One Direction in 2010. His passing was a shock to the music industry and fans worldwide.
