Chennai: Actor-turned-politician Vijay has unveiled an ambitious and populist manifesto for his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, packed with sweeping welfare promises aimed at reshaping Tamil Nadu’s socio-economic landscape ahead of elections.

In a symbolic appeal to voters, Vijay urged supporters to draw the party’s whistle symbol as kolam designs in front of their homes, calling it a mark of respect and public endorsement. The manifesto places strong emphasis on direct financial support, particularly targeting women and families. It promises ₹2,500 per month for women below 60 years, six free LPG cylinders annually per household, and financial assistance of ₹15,000 per year for parents of students from Classes 1 to 12. Economically weaker families will receive one sovereign of gold and a silk saree for their daughters’ marriages.

The party has also outlined major employment and youth welfare measures. Graduates without jobs will receive ₹4,000 per month, while those who have completed Plus Two or diploma courses will get ₹2,500 monthly. A new administrative system is proposed to fast-track government services, which is expected to generate five lakh jobs with a monthly salary of ₹18,000.

Healthcare and social security feature prominently, with a promise of health insurance coverage up to ₹25 lakh per family and an increase in welfare pensions to ₹3,000. The manifesto also includes 200 units of free electricity per month for all households.

Targeting key sectors, TVK has proposed interest-free loans of up to ₹5 lakh for women’s self-help groups and education loans up to ₹20 lakh without collateral. Farmers with less than five acres of land will have cooperative loans waived entirely, while those with larger holdings will receive partial relief.

Additional promises include salary hikes for anganwadi workers, financial aid for weavers, a ₹15,000 crore package for small industries, and the regularisation of temporary government employees. The party has also pledged to make Tamil Nadu a drug-free state, signalling an aggressive push on social reform alongside economic relief.
