San Francisco: Social media giant Meta is testing a new live-streaming platform called Super. This will allow influencers to host live streams, engage with their audience, and earn revenue.

Zuckerberg's firm has allegedly paid influencers between $200 and $3,000 to use the new platform for 30 minutes in the testing stage, reported Business Insider. Meta reached out to less than a hundred creators asking them to test the new product.

Super was in the development stage in late 2020 and is currently being built by Meta's New Product Experimentation team. The new platform looks similar to Twitch in functionality.

Tech influencer Andru Edwards and TikTok star Vienna Skye are among those participating in the test run. The Business Insider report said creators can take home 100% of the tips and revenue earned on Super. The platform currently has a tiered system and the audience will pay for access to features.

A Meta spokesperson told TechCrunch that Super is a small, standalone experiment being built by New Product Experimentation (NPE) and currently testing with a small group of creators.

Meta recently announced that it will be shutting down the live shopping feature on Facebook and Instagram from October 1 and focus on short-form videos called reels. Facebook Live will still be active but it won't be able to create product playlists or tag products on those videos.
