New York: Smartphone users are beginning to use a new term ‘iPhone finger’ after experts raised concerns about constant use of phone creating huge tension on the little finger, NDTV reported.

The term, which is first discussed on a podcast named 'The TJ Show', is all about the indentation on the little finger from the extensive usage of the smartphones such as Apple’s iPhones.

The pinky that the people use to support their smartphones develop noticeable divet, different from the appendage on the other hand.

One of the hosts on the show said: ‘The way we hold our phones sometimes with the weight of the phone resting on your pinky finger."

Adding further the host said: ‘It creates an indentation that actually changes the way your pinky looks.’

It is important for people to check if they have developed "iPhone finger" or what is also called "smartphone pinky", according to the report.

It takes hardly a minute to find it out; all you have to do is to hold out both little fingers and see if one looks noticeably different from the other.

The large indent on the user’s dominant hand has to do with how they hold their phones.

However, health experts largely dismiss the rising concern about pinky indentation saying it is not a genuine medical condition.

Dr Peter Evans, an orthopaedic surgeon with Cleveland Clinic, reportedly said that indents or gaps on little fingers do not mean there is a problem, adding Evans said: ‘They show typical pinky anatomy, which can vary widely’, the report said citing New York Post.
