US Open: Djokovic beat Zverev to reach final
text_fieldsQueens (New York): Novak Djokovic beat Tokyo Olympic champion Alexander Zverev to enter the final of US Open Tennis on Friday, Agence France-Presse reported. Djokovic, the top-ranked, defeated Zverev, the German fourth seed, though 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 in the semis. He is going to play the final against Daniil Medvedev on Sunday.
After the match, Djokovic said that he would put his heart, soul, body and head into the final game. He is going to treat the next game as the last match of his career, he added. Another victory will give him the first calendar year Salm after Rod Laver accomplished it 52 years ago.
For Djokovic, the semi win was somewhat revenging against Zverev, who had beaten Djokovic in Tokyo Olympics semis.
Djokovic is after his fourth career US Open title and his 21st overall Slam crown. This would break the all-time record he currently shares with Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.
Djokovic became the oldest US Open finalist since Andre Agassi at 35 in 2005 and could become the oldest tournament champion since Ken Rosewall at 35 in 1970. He has matched Federer's all-time record of 31 men's Slam finals.
