Indian tennis icon and six-time Grand Slam champion Sania Mirza has launched a new initiative called The Next Set, aimed at supporting India’s top and emerging women athletes by providing structured professional backing.

The programme, which will begin with tennis, is designed to bridge the gap between talent and performance by building a reliable ecosystem around athletes who are already competing at a high level.

Mirza said the initiative was born from her desire to give back to the sport that shaped her career and to ensure younger players receive timely guidance and support.

The Next Set will follow a two-pronged approach.

A key component is access to a dedicated professional support team, including coaches, physiotherapists, and fitness trainers, who can travel with players to tournaments. Mirza said consistent on-tour support can significantly improve preparation, coordination, and performance across a demanding competitive season.

The initiative will also organise specialised camps and coaching clinics at the Sania Mirza Tennis Academy. These sessions will be personally led by Mirza and will focus on technical, tactical, physical, and mental development to provide athletes with a holistic foundation.

The programme has received backing from BNW Developments and Shookra Polyclinics, which will contribute beyond financial assistance to support the long-term development of athletes.

Mirza said proper mentorship and guidance at the right time can make a decisive difference, adding that Indian women’s tennis has the talent to compete globally if given the right support.
