A unilateral attack on Ukraine not only has brought international condemnation on Russia and its president Vladimir Putin, but also global wrath for killing innocent people.

World Taekwondo's decision to strip Putin of an honorary taekwondo black belt conferred on him is the latest in the form of global reaction to the Russian invasion. The US, the EU, and the UN have already heaped their load of pressure on Russia through sanctions.

While announcing its decision to strip the Russian leader of the honour, the World Taekwondo tweeted that the Putin's action amounted to violating its motto of "Peace is More Precious than Triumph," by unravelling the brutal attack on innocent lives.

"In this regard, World Taekwondo has decided to withdraw the honorary 9th dan black belt conferred on Mr. Vladimir Putin in November 2013," the governing body said in a statement.

World Taekwondo also said that it would also extend its support to the International Olympic Committee's decision to ban the Russian flag and anthem at its events.

Earlier, the International Judo Federation had it would consider suspending Putin's status as honorary president and ambassador, taking into account the ongoing Russian military attack on Ukraine.

Other sporting organizations such as FIFA and UEFA have suspended Russian national teams and clubs from competition.

"FIFA and UEFA have today decided together that all Russian teams, whether national representative teams or club teams, shall be suspended from participation in both FIFA and UEFA competitions until further notice," both the bodies said in a joint statement.

Putin has been seen in proud moments while flaunting his physical strength in the martial uniforms, and sporting events were staged where he could be seen riding bare-chested on a horse or playing ice hockey.
