KCA revokes Sreesanth’s 3-yr ban after unconditional apology
text_fieldsThiruvananthapuram: Former India fast bowler S. Sreesanth has been reinstated by the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) after the cricketing body unanimously decided to revoke the three-year ban imposed on him following his unconditional apology over remarks made against the association.
The decision was taken during the KCA’s Special General Body meeting on Wednesday, where members discussed Sreesanth’s formal apology expressing regret for statements he made against the association on visual and social media platforms.
The KCA had imposed a three-year suspension on Sreesanth before the previous season of the Kerala Cricket League (KCL), citing his public comments as damaging to the association’s image and reputation.
The disciplinary action prevented the former international cricketer from participating in KCA-recognised activities, including his proposed involvement with the Kerala Cricket League.
Following the ban, Sreesanth challenged the KCA’s decision before the Thiruvananthapuram Munsiff Court, seeking to overturn the disciplinary action.
However, the court dismissed his petition, allowing the suspension to remain in effect.
Subsequently, Sreesanth submitted an official unconditional apology to the association, expressing regret over his earlier remarks.
The apology was placed before the Special General Body, which, after detailed discussions, unanimously decided to revoke the suspension after finding that the cricketer had shown clear and unambiguous remorse.
While granting relief to the former India pacer, the association issued a strict warning that any future similar conduct or public remarks that harm the reputation of the KCA would invite serious disciplinary action.
The decision also allows Sreesanth to continue as the co-owner of the Aries Kollam Sailors in Season Three of the Kerala Cricket League, removing uncertainty over his participation.
The revocation of the ban brings an end to a prolonged dispute between one of Kerala’s most prominent cricketers and the state cricket body.
It also marks a new phase in the relationship between Sreesanth and the KCA, while highlighting the association’s expectation that all stakeholders maintain discipline and protect the reputation of Kerala cricket.
