10-yr-old Delhi girl made to stand in sun at school as punishment dies

New Delhi: A 10-year-old girl died while undergoing treatment after she was allegedly made to stand in the scorching sun as punishment for forgetting to bring a book to school, her family has alleged. The incident took place at Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya in Vinod Nagar, Delhi.
According to the family, the girl was punished by a teacher on August 27 for forgetting to bring a book to class. Her condition reportedly deteriorated while she was at school, following which her mother, Anjali, was called to the institution.
The mother allegedly found her daughter standing in the sun in a severely distressed condition when she reached the school. The child was subsequently taken to a hospital and admitted for treatment. However, she died while receiving medical care, according to the family.
The allegations against the school staff are being investigated by the police. The circumstances leading to the girl's deterioration and death are expected to be examined as part of the inquiry.
The incident has triggered outrage among the girl's family and local residents. Family members staged a protest demanding stringent action against those responsible for subjecting the child to the alleged punishment.
BJP MLA Ravinder Singh Negi also visited the site following the incident and assured the protesters that action would be taken against anyone found responsible.
The girl's death has raised serious questions over the use of physical or potentially harmful forms of punishment in schools, with the family seeking accountability for what they allege was an avoidable tragedy.
