Online funding gathers $1 L helps 82-yr-old Walmart employee retire

Maryland/US: A US veteran, who served as a cashier at Walmart, was enabled to retire after a social media crowd-sourcing collected $100,000 for him, NDTV reported citing The BBC.
The elderly man, 82-year-old Warren Marion, got a check for $108,682 last week after internet donors opened their hearts to him. A local businessman named Roy McCarty organised the internet fundraising effort for the Walmart employee who hails from Cumberland, Maryland.
The Guardian reported that McCarty owns the Bug Boys local extermination businesses have a large number of TikTok followers. He met Marion while filming a video.
Last month, he started the GoFundMe fundraiser and requested his followers to consider donating. It was a success after it funding surpassed the target.
McCarty’s note on his funding page read, "I was astounded seeing this little older man still grinding. Working 8 to 9-hour shifts.”
McCarty further said that other social media influencers, which helped older people retire, inspired him to conduct such a campaign. He wanted Marion to take a break from his long hours of work and be able to visit his children in Florida.
McCarty then told Fox 5 that he just wanted to set things in motion, and god assisted him in making the campaign successful.
He further wrote on the GoFundMe page that he wanted to help the veteran to live his remaining life travelling and meeting his kids.
"Get him off his feet for eight hours at a time, and do the things he would love to do but may not be able to for financial reasons," NDTV quoted him from the page.
