Dubai International Airport’s air traffic control tower has been redesigned with the colours of the UAE flag, turning one of DXB’s most recognisable structures into a national symbol for arriving and departing passengers.

Dubai Airports introduced the new design during a ceremonial airside event that featured a Dubai Police parade with the tower as its backdrop.

Senior Dubai Airports officials, operational teams and oneDXB partners attended the ceremony, which highlighted the work behind daily airport operations at one of the world’s busiest aviation hubs.

The UAE flag now forms the centrepiece of the tower’s exterior, making it visible to travellers as they arrive in Dubai or depart from the city.

Majed Al Joker, Chief Operating Officer of Dubai Airports, said the tower carries both operational and symbolic importance.

“The ATC tower is one of the most important and symbolic structures at DXB. It’s where thousands of critical decisions are made every day, helping to keep aircraft, guests and operations moving safely and efficiently through Dubai", Majed said.

He added, "By bringing the colours of the UAE flag to this iconic landmark, we are celebrating the ambition of the nation we serve, while recognising the extraordinary teams and partners who ensure DXB is always Flying the Flag, Connecting the World".

DXB began operations with a single runway in 1960 and has since grown into the world’s busiest international airport.

The 89-metre air traffic control tower has been in operation since the airport’s expansion in 2000 and remains central to the movement of aircraft across the airport.

Every arrival, departure and aircraft movement relies on coordination between airside teams, airlines, ground handlers, safety teams, service providers and the wider oneDXB community.

The tower’s structure features a buttressed central column and arched wings, giving it the appearance of a futuristic bird-like form.

At the top of the tower is a multilevel control centre operated by Dubai Air Navigation Services, which manages the smooth flow of air traffic at DXB.
