Muzaffarnagar: The Muzaffarnagar district administration demolished a madrasa in Phulat village using a bulldozer on Sunday after it was declared illegal, according to reports.

The Darul Uloom Rahimia madrasa was demolished under police protection following an inquiry by the revenue department, according to Senior Superintendent of Police Sanjai Kumar. The probe was conducted in connection with a case involving the madrasa in charge, Maulana Hifzurrehman, and his two sons, Zuber and Junaid.

Police said the plot on which the madrasa stood was subsequently declared government land on August 17, paving the way for its demolition.

Hifzurrehman and his sons were arrested on July 6 in connection with the case. They were booked under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to intentional insult aimed at provoking a breach of peace and criminal intimidation, along with provisions of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021.

The demolition marks the latest action against the madrasa following the administrative inquiry and the criminal case involving its management.
