CJP announces September 5 Delhi march, accuses Centre of failing to honour July commitments

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has announced a “peaceful march” in Delhi on September 5, around four weeks after calling off its nationwide protests over the NEET paper leak.

The group said the march would begin at India Gate and end at the Delhi Police Headquarters, and would be led by families of NEET aspirants who died by suicide and victims of police brutality.

The CJP said it was restarting its mobilisation because the Centre had failed to implement commitments made on July 25, following which the group had withdrawn its protests.

The group had earlier demanded the resignation of then-Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, compensation for families of NEET aspirants who died by suicide following the paper leak, and an assurance that protesters would not face legal action. Pradhan resigned last month after weeks of protests by CJP volunteers and students.

In a statement, the CJP's National Working Committee said it had reviewed the government's compliance with the commitments and expressed “serious doubts” over whether the government intended to honour them.

The group accused the government of delaying action, relying on technicalities and avoiding clear commitments. It also claimed that the Supreme Court had asked the government to provide a list of FIRs registered against protesters across the country for quashing, but that the list had not been provided.

The CJP said a written assurance from the government was also pending.

It appealed to students, youth organisations and young citizens to gather at India Gate for the September 5 march.

The CJP had called off its nationwide agitation on July 25 after the government gave assurances that students and peaceful protesters would not face punitive action.
