Pink Cop Insulting 8-yr-old Girl: Kerala HC rejects Govt report defending accused

Kochi: The Kerala High Court rejected the state government's report on the incident in which an eight-year-old girl was humiliated in public by a 'Pink Patrol' police officer.

In addition to denying the compensation mandated by the court, the government has claimed in the report that the policewoman had not misbehaved to cause mental agony to the little girl and produced four witnesses to support the claim, The News Minute reported.

The little girl went through the ordeal on August 27, when she was with her father at Attingal, Thiruvananthapuram, to watch huge trailer shipping equipment to the ISRO unit. A Pink Police officer, Rejitha, found her mobile phone missing and accused the little girl's father as both were standing beside the police patrol vehicle.

She even accused the little as Jayachandran's accomplice. She humiliated the father and daughter in front of a large crowd. But the policewoman found her phone in the patrol vehicle later. The whole incident was filmed, posted on social media and went viral, gathering heavy flak.

The government decided to give a blind eye to the incident and just transferred the officer to Kollam as 'punishment'.

But the child's family approached the court after meeting the chief of the state police and a day-long sitting before the Secretariate went vain. They alleged before the court that the state was protecting the officer and denying the girl her fundamental rights.

Responding to the development in which the state produced four witnesses to support its claim, Jayachandran said that so far, no officers have taken his or his child's statement, despite approaching many, but the state is spending money for witnesses against his case. He wonders why the state is protecting the policewoman.
