Confessed to murder due to brutal Police torture: Afsana on her husband’s missing
text_fieldsPathanamthitta: The 25-year-old Afsana, who had previously confessed to killing her husband, Noushad, in Pathanamthitta, Kerala, has now come forward with startling allegations against the police, claiming that she was brutally tortured at the police station to make the false confession.
Afsana, who was remanded after her confession, made her ordeal public after obtaining bail, as Noushad, a 36-year-old native of Pathanamthitta who had been reported missing for two years, was found alive in Thodupuzha, putting an end to the mystery of his disappearance.
Last Friday, July 28, Noushad was finally traced to Thodupuzha, approximately 130 kilometres away from their hometown Adoor, where he was working as a labourer.
The discovery came just a day after Afsana was arrested by Kerala police on charges of killing her husband and burying him. Her confession had led to her arrest, and the police initiated a search for Noushad's supposed remains.
However, during the course of their investigation, authorities received a tip-off indicating that Noushad was, in fact, alive and had fled Adoor in 2021 after allegedly being subjected to physical abuse by Afsana and others.
"I was scared to live with her. Since November 2021, I am living here and working as a labourer. I do not have a mobile phone and have no news about Afsana," Noushad reportedly revealed upon being found.
Following her husband's discovery, Afsana was remanded to judicial custody for providing misleading information to the police but later obtained bail. She then came forward with serious allegations against the Konni Deputy Superintendent of Police, accusing them of brutality and coercion during her custody.
"I was mercilessly beaten up. Policemen used filthy language against me, and I was sprayed with pepper on my face. Even women cops beat me up, and I can't even stand up properly now," Afsana alleged.
She further claimed that she had told the police about Noushad's history of physical abuse towards her, often after consuming alcohol, and that she was unaware of the exact reason behind his sudden departure from their family home in December 2021.
In response to Afsana's allegations, the police have refuted any mistreatment or physical abuse during the investigation. They maintain that Afsana had voluntarily confessed to her husband's murder and misled the investigation.
