Sheila Dikshit given farewell, says there was pressure to quit
text_fieldsThiruvananthapuram: The outgoing Governor Sheila Dikshit on Thursday received farewell by the state government after her resignation was accepted by President Pranab Mukherjee earlier.
The farewell ceremony was held at the Technical area of Indian Air force Station in Trivandrum. Chief Minister Ommen Chandy, Planning and Rural Development Minister KC Joseph, Speaker of state Legislative Assembly G Karthikeyan and other high officials of the state were present at the event.
Dikshit also received guard of honour during the ceremony.
While talking to reporters after reaching Delhi, Dikshit said there was pressure on her to quit the post.
The former Delhi chief minister, who took over as Kerala Governor in March, said there had been pressure on her (from the Centre) and she thought it proper to resign to protect the prestige of the constitutional position.
"I thought there was a pressure. Before they do something to the position, which is a highly respectable constitutional position it is better to leave myself," she said on reaching Delhi.
