Prosecution’s nod not needed to register case against CM: Court
text_fieldsThiruvananthapuram: The Vigilance Court has said that the Prosecution’s permission was not required to register case against Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.
The court clarified that since Chandy was not the chief minister while complaint was registered, the chief minister, home minister and the other accused in the case would not enjoy legal impunity.
The court also instructed the vigilance department to register an FIR against all accused and start investigation saying that it suspected the steps taken by the Public Enterprise Board and Titanium Director Board functioning under the chief minister. The court also asked the Vigilance department to take the statements of former health minister K K Ramachandran.
The court had earlier ordered a reinvestigation into the role of ten persons, including Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala and PWD minister V K Ebrahim Kunju, in the case.
Meanwhile, KPCC president V M Sudheeran has said that the party will take appropriate decision after consulting legal experts. He also added that the demand for Chandy’s resignation was mere Opposition’s desire and Ramesh Chennithala had no role in the case.
