Meerut: The Meerut Police have registered a case against a Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) supporter for allegedly attempting to falsely implicate two Muslim men in gang rape and ‘love jihad’ cases as part of an extortion plot.

The case came to light after a woman identified as Bhawna told police that the accused, Nakul Gurjar, had offered her money and a job in exchange for framing the two men, Jishan and Shahvez.

The incident occurred on May 30 in the Jagriti Vihar Extension area of Meerut. Bhawna was travelling with Jishan and Shahvez when a group of men allegedly associated with Gurjar intercepted their vehicle and raised suspicions about the trio's presence together.

All three were subsequently taken to the Meerut Police for questioning. After nearly five hours of investigation, police concluded that the allegations appeared to be part of a pre-planned trap allegedly orchestrated by Gurjar.

According to police, Bhawna, a resident of Bulandshahr, later confessed that Gurjar had promised her employment and financial compensation if she accused the two Muslim men of gang rape and ‘love jihad’ and helped extort Rs 10 lakh from them.

Investigators said Jishan, who runs a domestic help agency and arranges workers for households, had been contacted by Bhawna seeking employment. Police believe this approach was planned in advance to make the alleged scheme appear genuine.

Trusting her request, Jishan asked Bhawna to come to Jagriti Vihar Extension, where Shahvez was also present. During the journey, Bhawna allegedly shared her live location with Gurjar’s associates, enabling them to track the group and intercept the vehicle, police said.

Meerut Police officer Suchita Singh said the woman was initially found in an unconscious state and was immediately taken to a hospital for medical examination.

“We immediately shifted her to a hospital where a medical test was conducted for rape or sexual assault signs. The results came back negative. Also, she had initially claimed she was 16 years old, but after going through her school documents, we found that she was 19 years,” Singh said.

Based on a complaint filed by Jishan and Shahvez, police have registered a case against Gurjar, who is currently absconding.

Police records also indicate that Nakul Gurjar was previously named in a gang rape case registered about a year ago, in which he was later granted bail.

The investigation into the alleged conspiracy and extortion attempt is ongoing.
