Kolkata: Over the Birbhum violence issue, the members of both ruling and the opposition parties engaged in a squabble inside the West Bengal Legislative Assembly on Monday, leaving many injured. Following the incident, the BJP staged a walkout, and the Speaker suspended five BJP MLAs, The Indian Express reported.

After the day's business started in the Assembly, BJP MLAs rose and staged a protest over the violence that happened in Bogtui village, Birbhum. They demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is also the Home Minister of the state. While BJP MLAs occupied the well and raised slogans against the CM, the Speaker requested them to stop and take their seats, but in vain.

Half an hour later, the ruling Trinamool Congress MLAs also reached the well and the two factions engaged in a squabble. The Leader of Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, claimed that opposition MLAs got beaten along with their Chief Whip Manoj Tigga and MLA Narahari Mahato. The latter were among the injured, Adhikari said. He added that women MLAs, including Chandana Bauri, were also attacked.

Meanwhile, TMC alleged that opposition MLAs attacked women security personnel in the Assembly and damaged official documents. TMC MLA Asit Majumdar sustained a broken nose and got hospitalized.

However, the Speaker of the House suspended five BJP members, including Adhikari and Tigga, after the incident.

Post the murder of deputy Pradhan Badu Sheikh, violence erupted in the Boguti village, which took the lives of at least people, including women and children. They had charred to death after their houses were put to fire.
