Mumbai: Three weeks after the now suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma made derogatory statements against Prophet Mohammed, Times now news anchor and Group editor of Times network, Navika Kumar, got booked for promoting statements that are religiously sensitive.

The FIR was registered by a Muslim cleric at Nanalpet police station under section 295-A of IPC, according to News laundry.

Earlier, Times Now had released a statement on Twitter opposing the views of the politician.

"Views expressed by BJP Spokesperson on Newshour@9 last night are her personal views. TIMES NOW does not endorse the views of participants. We urge participants in our debates to maintain restraint and not indulge in unparliamentary language against fellow panelists (sic)."

Nupur Sharma's statement has spurred protests among Islamic communities. Massive protests have been seen around the country for the past few days.

News channels including Times now are receiving hate for the increasing intensity of the situation. The Editors Guild of India had recently issued a statement insisting media houses refrain from making news that targets and triggers vulnerable communities.

At the same time, Allahabad High Court cancels appeal for dismissing the FIR registered against Mohammed Zubair, Alt News cofounder. He was booked under section 295 A of IPC and 67 of the IT Act for intentionally hurting religious sentiments on electronic media.

Zubair had called out Yati Narasinghanand Saraswati, Bajrang Muni, and Anand Swaroop as hate-mongers on Twitter.
