A journey between Lima and Khasab that currently takes about two and a half hours is expected to become a 20-minute drive once a major road project in Oman’s Musandam Governorate is completed.

For residents and visitors, the new Sultan Faisal bin Turki Road will provide a more direct connection between Khasab, Lima and Dibba, reducing the time required to travel across the governorate.

Work on the OMR151 million project has reached about 76 per cent, according to the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology.

A 55-minute journey across Musandam

The completed road will extend for 72 kilometres.

The full trip between Khasab and Dibba is expected to take about 55 minutes, while the Lima-Khasab section is projected to take around 20 minutes.

The shorter journeys are expected to make movement between Musandam’s communities easier and reduce the isolation created by lengthy travel times.

The road is divided into three parts. The first section covers 20 kilometres between Khasab and Lima.

An eight-kilometre stretch will run through Lima, while the longest section will extend for 44 kilometres from Lima to Dibba.

The ministry is developing the route as part of efforts to improve Musandam’s road network and strengthen links between its wilayats.

Once open, the road is expected to support smoother traffic movement across the governorate.

Improved access could also help bring more visitors to different parts of Musandam and support local tourism and commercial activity.

Authorities expect the project to create further investment and development opportunities for communities along the route.
