Ahmadabad: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence claimed that the two containers it had intercepted two days before at the Mundra port in Bhuj have been found out to be contained 2,988.219 kg of heroin worth Rs 21,000 crore in the international market. The Mundra port is owned and run by the Adani Group.

The DRI said the forensic testing has confirmed that the narcotic was heroin which might have been sourced from Afghanistan and was shipped from Iran's Bandar Abbas Port in the name of Aashi Trading Company, a Vijaywada-based company.

The company is reported to have imported the heroin as 'semi-processed talc stones' which had originated from Afghanistan.

The DRI detained two containers with the weight of 40 tonnes in total came from Bandar Abbas Port on Specific intelligence of the suspected narcotic consignment and examined the product under the provisions of Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in the presence of experts from the Forensic Sciences Laboratory, Gandhinagar, The Indian Express reported quoting a DRI official.

About 1999.579 kg was recovered from the first container and 988.64 kg was recovered from the second container, DRI said.

Searchers in connection with the heroin seizure have been conducted in Ahmadabad, Gandhidham and Mandvi as well as in Delhi and Chennai and two people have reportedly been arrested and a number of persons and entities are under investigation.
