NCB moves court to cancel Rhea Chakraborty's bail
text_fieldsAccording to a report by LiveLaw, the Narcotics Control Bureau has approached the Supreme Court in order to cancel the bail of actress Rhea Chakraborty. Rhea was last year accused of facilitating the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput by supplying him with drugs and was arrested by the NCB in September last year.
Earlier this month, the Narcotics Control Bureau had published a 12,000 page chargesheet citing Rhea, her brother Showik, Sushant's domestic helpers Dipesh Sawant and Samuel Miranda amongst the 33 accused in the case. The NCB alleges that Rhea is an "active member" of a drugs syndicate although the claim was rubbished by her lawyer Satish Maneshinde.
"The entire amount of 'Narcotic Substances' 'recovered' against 33 accused are nothing compared to what even a constable in Mumbai Police or Narcotics Cell or the Airport Customs or other agencies recover from one raid or trap," he said in a statement on March 6.
While granting bail to Rhea, the Mumbai High Court had also observed that there was little evidence that Rhea had been actually involved in drugs trafficking.
"She(Rhea) is not part of drug dealers. She has not forwarded the drugs allegedly procured by her to somebody else to earn monetary or other benefits," the bail order reads as per LiveLaw. "Since she has no criminal antecedents, there are reasonable grounds for believing that she is not likely to commit any offence while on bail."
Rhea's bail conditions currently stipulate that she cannot leave the country without obtaining permission from the court.
