An 18-year-old girl from Kashmir has secured a spot in the prestigious Guinness World Records by folding 250 origami boats in just one hour, demonstrating exceptional talent and perseverance.

Rutba Showkat, a resident of Srinagar, accomplished the feat after two earlier unsuccessful attempts. Her name now appears in the international record books for the “most origami boats created in one hour,” a record she achieved in her hometown under official supervision.

After receiving confirmation from Guinness World Records authorities, Rutba said, “I have been pursuing this record for the last three years. After two unsuccessful tries, I finally succeeded. Alhamdulillah, diligent efforts always yield results.”

The task demanded both accuracy and speed, as Rutba folded more than four boats each minute, completing each in less than 15 seconds. She kept her efforts secret, revealing the accomplishment only after obtaining the official certificate, much to the surprise and pride of her family and supporters.

Rutba is also a skilled martial artist who has won over 50 medals at state and national competitions, including multiple gold medals. Her other passions include calligraphy and painting, which she explored more deeply during the COVID-19 lockdown.

She had previously been acknowledged in the India Book of Records before setting her sights on the Guinness World Records. Rutba said that it was during the pandemic that she began taking origami seriously as a form of creative expression.

Her recent achievement is being widely celebrated throughout the Valley, with many viewing her as a role model for young girls in Kashmir. A local teacher who has observed her journey remarked, “She exemplifies what can be accomplished through dedication, consistency, and family support.”

Rutba hopes to inspire more young people, particularly girls, to discover their talents and set ambitious goals despite any obstacles they may face.
