India and Chile have concluded the fourth round of negotiations for their proposed comprehensive economic partnership agreement, or CEPA, marking a significant step toward deepening economic ties with the South American nation.

An official said on Friday that the five-day discussions were constructive and solutions-oriented, with substantial progress achieved across most chapters of the agreement.

According to the official, the latest round brought broad convergence on key textual elements, improved clarity on pending proposals, and steady forward movement in areas that require more detailed technical work. A majority of chapters are now close to conclusion.

The pact with Chile carries strategic weight for India, as it could improve access to critical minerals that are essential for sectors such as electronics, automobiles, and solar energy. Chile is among the world’s leading producers of lithium and copper, both of which are crucial to India’s manufacturing and clean energy goals.

Officials from both sides are expected to continue technical engagements to resolve remaining issues and work toward finalising the agreement. Further rounds will aim to build on the progress made this week.
