According to reports, the SIT added Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita to the case against Vijayan’s gunman Anil Kumar, security officer S. Sandeep, and police officers Shaiju, Arun and Vipin. The development was included in a report submitted before the Judicial Magistrate Court in Alappuzha on Saturday, The New Indian Express reported.
The accused officers, who had been expected to surrender before the court on Saturday, are said to have gone into hiding following the addition of the more serious charge.
The five officers had earlier been placed under suspension after the SIT submitted a preliminary report to the state police chief recommending action in connection with the incident. The investigation relates to allegations that Youth Congress workers were attacked during the Nava Kerala Sadas programme held in Alappuzha.
