Anupam Mittal, founder of Shaadi.com, has urged companies to rethink their payroll practices, arguing that employees should ideally be paid twice a month instead of following the traditional monthly salary cycle.

In a LinkedIn post on Monday, Mittal said many companies promote benefits such as remote work, free meals, and extended leave to appear employee-friendly, but often overlook the importance of timely salary payments.

He noted that most companies pay salaries on the first week of the following month, with some paying on the first day unless it falls on a weekend. Mittal described this as a "British-era" system that should be reconsidered.

According to him, Shaadi.com changed its payroll process several years ago by crediting salaries at the end of the current month rather than the following month.

"Not as a perk. But as common sense," he wrote.

Mittal said delays in salary payments can have a significant impact on employees' finances, potentially leading to missed EMI payments, difficulties in paying rent, and other financial disruptions.

He argued that regular and faster access to income improves financial stability for workers, adding that "cash flow is dignity."

The entrepreneur also proposed that companies consider paying salaries on the 15th and 30th of every month. While payroll teams may initially resist the change, he said advances in technology have made such systems easier to implement.

Mittal said more frequent salary payments could reduce financial stress, help employees avoid debt traps, and encourage greater consumer spending.

He added that improved cash flow would benefit employees, businesses, and the broader economy by increasing spending activity and supporting economic growth.
