20 Delhi colleges receive bomb threats, searches underway
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Around 20 colleges in the capital, including Jesus and Mary College in Chanakyapuri, received bomb threat emails on Wednesday, according to the Delhi Fire Services (DFS).
Officials confirmed that the messages were hoaxes, though initial findings suggest the sender may have used a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to conceal their identity.
The latest incident comes just a week after more than 100 schools in Delhi were targeted with similar threats over five consecutive days, all of which proved false. On August 21, six schools, including those in Dwarka Sector 5 and Prasad Nagar, received threatening emails, forcing evacuations and large-scale searches.
Police teams, along with the fire department, bomb disposal squads and dog squads, were immediately pressed into service, though no suspicious items were found. Investigations into the origin of the emails are continuing.
Earlier, on August 18, Delhi Public School in Dwarka was also targeted with a bomb threat, which turned out to be baseless.
Such repeated hoax messages have caused anxiety and disrupted academic schedules across the city. Last month, more than 50 schools were forced to temporarily shift to online classes after receiving similar emails. In previous cases, Abhinav Public School in Rohini, Richmond Global School in Paschim Vihar, St Stephen's College and St Thomas School in Dwarka were among those affected.
On July 17 alone, at least seven schools received threats, while in May, over 200 institutions, including schools, colleges, hospitals and even the Indira Gandhi International Airport, were targeted. Many of these cases remain under investigation, with several traced to overseas VPNs.
