Walked out of Barbie with daughter because of ‘sexual connotations’: actor Juhi Parmer

Mumbai: Actor Juhi Parmar said she was shocked at the ‘inappropriate language and sexual connotations’in the movie ‘Barbie’.

The actor said she quit watching it along with her 10 year-old daughter hardly 15 minutes after entering the cinema, The Indian Express reported.

Accusing the makers of misleading the audience, she said many other parents also refused to sit through the movie, The Indian Express reported.

‘A lot of my own audience is not going to happy with what I share today, some of you may send me a lot of angst but I share this note as a concerned parent to Barbie! And for the other parents out there, don’t make the mistake I did and please do check before you take your child for the film, that choice is yours! #responsibleparentingwithjuhi #parenting #responsibleparenting #parent,” she reportedly wrote.

‘Barbie’ directed by Greta Gerwig, staring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in the lead roles of Barbie and Ken, has grabbed a lot of attention internationally.

Juhi in her letter wondered why the moviemakers, breaking her ‘ perfect illusion of a Barbie’, portrayed Barbie as inappropriate for kids, instead of having one which everyone could enjoy with family.

Juhi found support from some parents while many others asked her not to jump into conclusions after just a few minutes into the movie.

One user said the actor did not give any example of inappropriate aspect of the movie.

‘The reason it’s PG-13 is because Barbie is a functioning adult and the movie has themes deeper than a child could ever understand,’ the user went on to respond.

Another users said Barbie has always been sexualized and added that ‘it is not the films job to parent your child’.
