Kiran Rao's "Laapataa Ladies" witnesses slow start at box office

The movie, which clashed with Hollywood film "Dune: Part Two," managed to garner Rs 0.65 crore in India net collections on its opening day, as reported by Sacnilk. The overall Hindi occupancy for "Laapataa Ladies" stood at 8.12% on Friday.
The film faced tough competition from Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya's "Dune: Part Two." Evening shows recorded the highest occupancy rate at 8.90%, followed by afternoon shows at 7.91%, and morning shows at 7.55%.
Receiving generally positive reviews from film critics, the movie is based on a story by Biplab Goswami and scripted by Sneha Desai.
"Laapataa Ladies" is a social satire with a feminist perspective, emphasizing women's rights post-marriage. Film critic Saibal Chatterjee awarded it 3.5 stars out of 5, describing it as a breezy and light-hearted film that addresses weighty issues without becoming burdensome.
Set in rural India, the film unfolds the story of two brides separated during a train journey, leading to a complex journey. Co-produced by Aamir Khan Productions and Kindling Productions, the film features Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Ravi Kishan, and Chhaya Kadam.
