Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s infamous defamation trial, which grabbed eyeballs last year, is now made into a documentary and will soon be released on streaming giant Netflix.
The case will be released as a three-part documentary and will start streaming from August 16.
Netflix released the trailer Depp v. Heard on Wednesday, which will examine ‘the infamous defamation case that captured the world’s attention and became the world's first trial by TikTok".
The description added, "Showing both testimonies side-by-side for the first time, this series explores this global media event, questioning the nature of truth and the role it plays in our modern society”, as quoted by People.
Depp v. Heard is directed by Emma Cooper, who made Netflix's 2022 doc The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe: The Unheard Tapes.
According to an article about the new docuseries on Netflix’s Tudum, Depp V. Heard has the "goal of presenting a neutral overview of what happens when the court of public opinion starts to overshadow reality."
Since the trial, there have been several documentaries about the case, plus a Tubi original movie titled Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial.
In April 2022, Depp testified against his ex-wife and actress Amber Heard in a court in Virginia. The testimony went three hours long and the actor denied allegations of physical abuse and informed the jury that he sued his ex-wife, to clear his name of accusations of domestic abuse.
The actor clarified his stance and said, “My goal is the truth. One day you’re Cinderella and then in zero point six seconds you’re Quasimodo. I didn’t deserve that and neither did my children.” He continued, “Never did I myself reach the point of striking Ms Heard in any way nor have I ever struck any woman in my life.”
The actor filed a libel suit against Amber over claims of defamation after the actress called herself a victim of “sexual violence” in a 2018 op-ed in The Washington Post.
Months after the controversial court battle, Johny Depp has been keeping a low profile and taking out time for some solitude.
