Jailer 2 earns Rs 583 crore worldwide after record opening week in India
text_fieldsRajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has earned an estimated Rs 583 crore worldwide after eight days, recording the biggest extended opening week in India for a Tamil film, according to trade estimates.
Its domestic gross reached approximately Rs 374 crore, surpassing the Rs 365 crore collected by 2.0 during its opening week in 2018. Overseas collections stood at about $22 million, equivalent to Rs 209 crore.
The film earned approximately Rs 18.50 crore in India on Thursday, down 40 per cent from the previous day. It was the film’s first largely normal working day, although a few centres continued to benefit from a limited holiday effect.
The trade assessment projects that Jailer 2 will cross Rs 600 crore worldwide the following day and could become the highest-grossing Tamil film globally by Sunday. Those outcomes remain projections.
Jailer 2 has already become the highest-grossing Tamil film in Kerala and Karnataka, according to the estimates.
In the Telugu states, it ranks third among Tamil releases, behind 2.0 and Jailer. Its current performance suggests it could overtake both and become the first Tamil film to collect Rs 100 crore in the territory.
In Tamil Nadu, Jailer 2 has grossed approximately Rs 139 crore, the third-highest eight-day collection behind Leo’s Rs 173 crore and The GOAT’s Rs 142 crore.
The assessment describes its performance at this stage as stronger than that of both films, suggesting it could eventually surpass The GOAT and potentially Leo.
That outcome is not assured, particularly given The GOAT’s strong run beyond its opening week.
The estimates nevertheless project that Jailer 2 will exceed Rs 200 crore in Tamil Nadu and enter the state’s four highest-grossing films. Its eventual position is expected to become clearer over the coming week.
