Bombay High Court grants pre-arrest bail to Tandav crew
text_fieldsMumbai: Bombay High Court has granted three weeks' transit anticipatory bail to Tandav crew including director Ali Abbas Zafar and three others in an FIR registered in Uttar Pradesh.
The bail will enable the crew to approach the appropriate court for regular pre-arrest bail, counsel of the filmmaker said.
Tandav, a web series premiered by Amazon Prime Video, was dragged into controversy as many right wing groups alleged that the film denigrated the Hindu gods.
First Information Reports have been filed in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and lately in Mumbai against the crew including director Ali Abbas Zafar, writer Gaurav Solanki and Amazon Prime's Head of India Originals, Aparna Purohit.
On Wednesday, the Mumbai police registered an offence against makers and artists of the series on the complaint of MLA Ram Kadam.
Seven people have been named in the FIR including actor Saif Ali Khan, series director Ali Abbas Zafar, producer Himanshu Mehra, writer Gaurav Solanki, Amazon Prime's India head Aprna Purohit and Amit Agarwal and actor Zeeshan and other actors related to the web series.
On Monday, the film crew had publicly expressed regret which was rejected by Ram Kadam who said that "an apology was not enough".
