Thiruvananthapuram: With the Kerala Assembly election results set to be announced on Monday, political parties across the state have begun preparations for celebrations, with large-scale food arrangements, cultural programmes and party gatherings planned.

In Pandikkad in Malappuram district, Indian National Congress and United Democratic Front workers are preparing biryani for around 5,000 people in anticipation of a victory. Party leaders said a large tent has been set up in the town for food distribution.

“We will celebrate the end of 10 years of LDF rule. We welcome everyone, including CPI(M) workers,” a Congress worker said, adding that 16 large vessels have been arranged, each using around 40 kg of rice to prepare biryani. Cultural programmes are also part of the planned celebrations.

“We are confident that the UDF will come to power. Malappuram district has been a stronghold of the front, and that will continue,” a local leader said.

At Indira Bhavan, the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee headquarters, a large pandal has been erected ahead of the results. Congress leader Manakkad Suresh said sweets have been ordered for distribution after the results are declared.

“As we work among the public, we understand their sentiment. By 12 noon on Monday, the UDF will secure a clear majority,” he told the media. He added that all working committee leaders have been invited, with LED screens and seating arrangements set up to watch the results.

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party is also preparing for celebrations in Kochi, with large quantities of laddoos ordered. Though the party and its NDA allies currently do not have any MLAs in the Kerala Assembly, leaders expressed optimism of opening their account this time.

Party workers have prepared placards featuring expected winning candidates. A leader said the party expects victories in constituencies including Nemom, Kazhakootam, Manjeshwar, Palakkad and Thiruvalla, claiming that voters are dissatisfied with both the LDF and UDF and will support the NDA.
