US woman detained in Dubai for ‘screaming in public’, family claims
text_fieldsDubai: Police in Dubai have detained a woman from Houston in US for ‘screaming in public’, her family claimed.
Tierra Young Allen’s family told Fox 26 that they are ‘terrified’ for her future after she was stuck in the nation for two months.
Tierra Young Allen, who is a social media influencer and truck driver in Houston, is now under travel ban and waiting for verdict of the investigation against her.
She was on vacation to UAE in May with her friend when they got involved in an accident and the car they hired was seized, her mother Tina Baxter reportedly said.
Though nobody was injured, the Dubai police detained her friend on ground that she was driving the vehicle. The individual was released a week later.
However, the car rental company would not release Allen’s credit cards, ID and other items. She was asked to pay an ‘undisclosed amount’ in order for her to receive items.
The individual she went to deal with the matter was aggressive and began to screaming at her, the report said quoting Allen’s mother.
The 29-year-old woman eventually yelled back, which led to her being charged for screaming in Dubai.
‘She is in jail for one reason and one reason alone, she raised her voice. In that country, a female is not even allowed to raise her voice. If she raises her voice it's punishable by jail time,’ explains Community Activist Quanell X was quoted as saying.
Allen, who runs a social media account called 'The Sassy Trucker' documenting her journeys, has huge fan following on platforms including Instagram.
