Two Russian buildings damaged in Ukraine’s drone attacks, Moscow airport closed briefly

Moscow: Russia's defence ministry claimed to have shot down three Ukrainian drones over Moscow early on Sunday.

The drone attack prompted authorities in Moscow to shut down an international airport, news agency AFP reported.

While two drones were ‘suppressed by electronic warfare’, one was shot down on the city’s outskirts.

No casualty has been reported following the drone attack, which has increased in number this year.

Moscow, lying just 500km away from the Ukrainian border, has rarely come under Ukrainian attack since the conflict started.

Several drone attacks were previously reported including those on the Kremlin and Russian towns near the border with Ukraine.

Calling it as an ‘attempted terrorist attack’ Moscow blamed it on Ukraine, saying Kyiv attempted to attack ‘objects’ in the city of Moscow.

‘Two more drones were suppressed by electronic warfare and, having lost control, crashed on the territory of Moscow-City's non-residential building complex’, Russian sources were quoted as saying.

It is reported that Vnukovo airport redirected flights to other airports after the airport was closed for flights.

Previously on Friday, a drones attack ‘disrupted air traffic’ at the airport where the latest attack occurred.

Meanwhile, Russian foreign ministry alleged that the drone attack would not have been possible without Kyiv receiving the US and NATO help.

Acknowledging further attack by Ukraine, Russian on Friday said it had ‘intercepted’ two missiles close to Ukraine border.
