Back to school in Sharjah: Extra patrols aim to keep pupils safe and traffic moving

As pupils returned to classrooms for the 2026–27 academic year, Sharjah Police increased its presence around schools to make the daily journey safer and reduce delays for families and other road users.
Officers and traffic patrols were deployed across Sharjah city and the Central and Eastern regions on the first day of school.
The operation brought together security, traffic, media and community teams, with a focus on protecting pupils and keeping vehicles moving during busy arrival and departure periods.
A mobile operations room was activated to monitor roads near schools during peak hours.
The system allows police teams to follow traffic conditions as they develop and respond more quickly when congestion, safety concerns or other incidents are reported.
Increased monitoring around school entrances is also intended to help pupils board and leave buses safely while managing the large number of vehicles arriving at the same time.
Parents, residents and other community members can contact a dedicated service through the Sharjah Police 901 call centre.
The service receives security and traffic comments, questions and reports concerning schools.
Police said the direct channel would help teams act quickly and maintain communication with families and the wider community.
Police teams are also visiting schools to speak with pupils about road safety and community awareness.
The programs are designed to help children understand safe behaviour around roads, buses and school entrances.
Sharjah Police has also activated the “Ma’man” platform in partnership with the Sharjah Private Education Authority.
The platform monitors reports concerning pupils and school buses, providing another channel through which safety issues can be identified and followed up.
A supporting media campaign includes videos, visual designs and safety messages prepared for different age groups.
The wider back-to-school plan combines police deployment, traffic management, public communication and education to make school journeys safer and less stressful for pupils, parents and drivers.
