Lisbon: The picturesque streets of Sao Lorenco De Bairro, a small Portuguese town, found themselves painted red with wine.

An accident at the local distillery gave the locals and passersby an unforgettable sight and at first, it seemed like a strange weather phenomenon.

There are around 2,000 residents in the town.

This incident unfolded in the municipality of Anadia, Portugal, where two tanks at a local winery unexpectedly exploded. This rupture led to a massive spill of nearly six lakh gallons of wine, an amount so substantial that it could fill an Olympic-sized swimming pool. The intensity of the leak was such that it even flooded the basement of a nearby residence, reported the New York Post.

In response to this unprecedented situation, an environmental alert was issued, and local authorities and the fire department sprang into action.

Their swift and coordinated efforts aimed to divert the flowing wine into a nearby field, ensuring that the Certima River remained free from contamination. Videos and photographs capturing this extraordinary occurrence quickly circulated, leaving countless viewers amazed by the unusual spectacle.

Reactions to the event were varied, with some expressing sadness for the significant loss incurred by the wine-making company. Others found humor in the situation and suggested humorously declaring a town holiday immediately. A few curious people inquired about the taste of the wine, while others couldn't help but lament the waste of such a precious beverage. Regardless of the reactions, this incident will undoubtedly remain etched in the memories of those who witnessed it.

One X, formerly Twitter, user also sarcastically called it a "miracle".
