New Delhi: The Tamil Nadu Congress has unanimously decided to support TVK leader Vijay in forming a secular government, sources confirmed after an urgent Political Affairs Committee (PAC) meeting late Tuesday.

AICC Tamil Nadu in-charge Girish Chodankar convened the Zoom meeting, where senior members backed the actor-turned-politician. This follows Vijay's request for support, with the party prioritising a secular mandate over its former DMK alliance.

Top leaders, including Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and Chodankar, met at Kharge's residence. Congress general secretary K C Venugopal told reporters: “TVK President Thiru Vijay has requested the Indian National Congress for support to form a Government in Tamil Nadu. The INC is clear that the mandate in Tamil Nadu is for a secular government that is committed to protecting the Constitution in letter and spirit. The INC is determined not to have the BJP and its proxies run the Government of Tamil Nadu in any manner.”

The leadership directed the TNCC to finalise based on state sentiments.

TVK secured 108 seats in the 234-member assembly, needing 10 more for a majority. Congress won 5; PMK 4; CPI and CPI(M) 2 each; DMK 59; AIADMK 47; BJP, DMDK, and AMMK 1 each; VCK 2. Results were declared on Monday.
