No-trust move in Pakistan: National Assembly dissolved, Imran seeks fresh polls
text_fieldsIslamabad: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday told people of his country to get ready for fresh elections.
He was addressing the nation after the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly rejected the no-confidence motion raised by opposition parties.
Congratulating the nation, Imran Khan said Speaker Qasim Suri had stopped an international conspiracy to change the regime.
Imran Khan reportedly had written to President Arif Alvi advising him to dissolve the Assemblies.
He said the people of the country could get to decide who they want in power through fresh polls.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, current chairman of the Pakistan People's Party, alleged the government had violated Constitution.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari , who has been at the forefront of the move to oust Imran Khan, said that the lawyers were approaching Supreme Court to question the government.
He called up on institutions to protect, uphold, defend and implement the constitution of Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Imran Khan said the polls would take place within 90 days, and a caretaker government would manage the affairs.
Imran Khan claims to have got messages from people worrying over the future; he asked people not to worry because God is watching over Pakistan.
Deputy Speaker junked the no-confidence motion stating that it was against Article 5 of the Constitution.
Opposition lawmakers, who were all along confident of winning the no-trust move, protested against rejection of the motion.
Opposition parties reportedly had the backing of 177 members against the required 172 to remove Imran Khan in the 342- member National Assembly.
Pakistan has been roiling in crisis for the past many weeks since the Opposition launched the no-trust motion.
Imran Khan rhetorically attacked Opposition camp in rallies. He said that those voting against him would not get any social respect and nobody would marry their children.
As days got neared for the no-trust motion, he started alleging foreign conspiracy to oust him from power.
However, he never cared to present any evidences to bear out his claim.
