Khaled Hosseini writes heartfelt note for transgender daughter

Afghan-American novelist Khaled Hosseini took to Twitter to introduce his transgender daughter Haris to the world. The 21-year-old came out as transgender a day ago.

The author wrote a heartfelt note supporting his daughter. Hosseini said he has never been prouder of Haris and she has taught the family "so much about bravery and truth". He added that the process of transitioning has been painful for Haris. "She is sober to the cruelty trans people are subjected to. But she is strong and undaunted".

The Kite Runner author in a separate post tweeted a photo of him and baby Haris. He wrote: "I love my daughter. She is beautiful, wise, and brilliant. I will be by her side every step of the way. Our family stands behind her."

Sharing a photo of Haris after transitioning, Hosseini said he has known about her journey since last year. "I have watched her navigate some very trying personal times." He further described transitioning as an emotionally, physically, socially, and psychologically complicated undertaking. "Haris has met each challenge with grace, patience, and wisdom," said the proud father.

Hosseini stated that he is delighted to have not one but two beautiful daughters. "Most of all, I am inspired by Haris' fearlessness and courage to share her true self with the world."

He concluded the note by saying: "It is a privilege to watch her enter the world as the beautiful, wise, and brilliant woman that she is. May God bless her."
